A free zone is an area with its own licensing authority and rules. Companies set up there can be fully foreign-owned, and each zone has its own list of permitted activities, workspace options and visa quotas.
How do I choose a free zone?

Can a free zone company work with clients on the mainland?
It depends on the activity and the zone. Many service companies can invoice mainland clients, while selling goods directly to UAE consumers usually needs a mainland licence or a distributor. We explain what applies to your case.
